There are always going to be a number of challenges facing young adults and school leavers, that need explaining and careful consideration. In our experience, students are excited by the prospect of leaving school, but are a little lost and there isn’t always the budget for schools to entirely address the options available.
School leavers are not automatically work-ready, lacking both life skills and maturity; they are up against candidates with a polished CV and interview experience, which instantly puts them at a disadvantage.
One Step Recruitment supports lots of students in Somerset, largely through The One Step Foundation, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or with learning needs, helping to release their talent. We work closely with local schools and colleges entirely free of charge, providing mentoring, help with building a CV, interview practice and social skills advice – all in readiness for school leavers when they start work.
Our Commercial Manager James led a Year 11 assembly on Thursday 25th January at Kingsmead School, sharing with students how to prepare a worthy CV and a number of interview tips. James went on to explain the importance of how best to represent yourself on social media platforms, a fundamental source of information and research for employers in this modern era.
After the assembly Charlie Pierce, Assistant Headteacher at Kingsmead, thanked James for such an informative presentation and went on to impart that the students had got a lot from the assembly and were left feeling inspired.
